Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about EMI and loan calculations.

What is EMI?

EMI stands for Equated Monthly Installment. It's the fixed amount you pay to the lender every month until the loan is fully repaid. Each EMI includes both principal and interest.

How is EMI calculated?

EMI is calculated using this formula:

EMI = P × r × (1+r)n / ((1+r)n - 1)

Where P = Principal, r = monthly interest rate (annual rate / 12 / 100), and n = total number of monthly installments.

Is this EMI calculator free?

Yes, 100% free with no signup, no payment, and no limits. Calculate as many loans as you want.

How does prepayment affect my loan?

Prepayment (extra money you pay each month) reduces your outstanding principal faster. This means you pay less interest overall and can close your loan earlier. Our calculator shows the full effect with the amortization schedule.

What's the difference between flat rate and reducing balance?

Our calculator uses the reducing balance method (standard for most bank loans). In this method, interest is charged on the outstanding balance. Flat rate charges interest on the full principal throughout, which makes the effective rate much higher.

Is my loan data stored anywhere?

No, never. All calculations happen in your browser. Your loan details never leave your device.
